Latest hit single from self-titled debut rockets into Top 5 as Swindell tours with Jason Aldean
iHeart Radio Music and Academy of Country Music awards Best New Artist nominee Cole Swindell makes a personal salute to U.S. troops in his touching new video for new Top 5 hit “Ain’t Worth the Whiskey.” Entertainment Weekly debuted the video exclusively Thursday and it’s now available everywhere.
The Warner Bros. Records recording artist and CMA Triple Play winner invited hundreds of fans out to the video shoot earlier this year at the Silver Dollar Saloon in Nashville’s rockin’ Lower Broadway district. Midway through a performance of the hit, Swindell stops the crowd and raises his beer for good friend Kyle Davis, who has served five tours in Afghanistan with U.S. Special Forces. Davis then joins Swindell on stage as the crowd continues the salute. In the song, Swindell sings, “And, yeah, I’m raising my glass to those savin’ our ass overseas.”
“It was cool to have Kyle and some of his actual team members in the video,” Swindell told Entertainment Weekly. “We want to do anything we can to make them feel involved and let them know that we appreciate them, letting us do what we love while they’re out doing that stuff.”
The video drops as “Ain’t Worth the Whiskey” reaches No. 4 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart this week, giving him a third Top 5 hit from his self-titled 2014 debut album (joining No. 1s “Chillin’ It” and “Hope You Get Lonely Tonight”). “Whiskey” is a departure from those party-centric songs as Swindell sings about moving on from a broken relationship and embracing other things that are important to him.
The Georgia native is one of country music’s hottest performers and singer-songwriters. He is the only nominee representing country music for Best New Artist at the March 29 iHeart Radio Music Awards, joining British crooner Sam Smith, “All About that Bass” girl Meghan Trainor, rapper Iggy Azalea and rockers Bastille. Swindell also is one of three finalists for the Academy of Country Music’s New Artist of the Year Award, to be presented April 19 during the 50th annual awards at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
